Education Activities :
1. Summer workshops on bioinformatics for high school biology teachers The workshop is being planned to start in the summer 2011. The goal of the bioinformatic is to train high school teachers in Baltimore area modern bioinformatics methods, show them how bioinformatics has become integral to all aspects of biology, from taxonomy and evolution to molecular biology and biochemistry, and help them to integrate what they learned into their high school curriculums.
2. Undergraduate summer internship to learn strawberry genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. This will start in summer 2010 at Univ. of Maryland and USDA Beltsville
3. Bioinformatics Capstone Course A capstone research challenge course will be developed at Towson Univ to offer students the opportunity to work in collaborative teams to tackle real world, open-ended research problems using the data generated from this project.
